The DREAM Project - An Overview

Ben Paechter, Napier University, Edinburgh

The "Distributed Resource Evolutionary Algorithm Machine" Project is funded by the European Commission's Universal Information Systems Proactive Initiative, and is now reaching its conclusion. The Project's goal was to provide the technology and software infrastructure necessary to support the next generation of evolving agents in a way that made that infrastructure universal, open and scalable. In order to achieve this a system which allowed the automatic distribution of processing through a virtual machine built from large numbers of individual machines linked by standard Internet protocols was built, and a new model of distributed computing was developed. Tools for the easy specification of evolutionary algorithms were also produced.

Ben Paechter from Napier University is Coordinator of the DREAM project, and will give an overview of the project as a whole.
