Stealing From an Ongoing Flow

Abstract:

Overlay services, where new devices may be allowed to use the same spectrum as the existing devices, are being considered as a possible method to increase operational efficiency of allocated spectrum.  In this talk, we discuss a basic scenario of one secondary flow (in overlaid services) trying to maximize its transmission rate in the presence of an ongoing flow. We will discuss two variants of the interference channel and our first set of results, highlighting the importance of power control and feedback in such systems.

Ashutosh Sabharwal received his B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi in 1993. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a MS in 1995 and PhD in 1999. Currently he is an Assistant Professor at Rice, where he also the Director of Center for Multimedia Communication. His main research interests are information theoretic foundations, protocols and platforms for high performance wireless networks.
